Canon DSLR and Camcorders?

So I've been wanting to get a camera for a while now. The feature I am most interested in is video recording. Initially, I had opted for the Canon EOS 60D because it had HD video recording, but I ended up getting a Canon VIXIA HF M41. So far I like the camcorder, but I was wondering if my choice was right. What made me go for the camcorder was the idea that the audio is far better in a camcorder than in a DSLR camera. Is this correct, or do both function equally as well when it comes to video recording. Another thing is, since I want to be a filmmaker would this camcorder help me, or should I consider something else. Thank you in advance for any advice you may have!
