EOS Camera Movie Record Help?

i am making a stop motion video with a canon eos 1000d and i have downloaded eos camera movie record, i was just wondering if i can take just a PICTURE by clicking a button on my laptop so i don't jog my camera when pressing the button on the camera as i am entering a competition so it needs to be good, or can you recommend another piece of software that will allow me to take a picture from my laptop but using my canon camera.
