Why was that Canon EOS so cheap?

The other day I went into a pawnshop and I saw a Canon EOS for about $139, I didn't get to check it because my ride showed up but I wanted to get a Canon EOS Rebel t1i and I know that's about 700 something. So why was that EOS so cheap? was it an older model? idk Im going back tomorrow
